The Annual Summer Nights in Nevada City celebration, an outdoor festival of art and music, will be held three Wednesday evenings, July 17, 24, and 31, 2013 in this colorful Northern Sierra foothills town.

During Summer Nights, Nevada City’s landmark historic district is closed to motorized traffic and filled with arts, crafts, classic cars, food, drink and music. Leading Sierra foothills musicians perform on outdoor stages throughout the downtown area. Hours are 6-9:30 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Three Wednesday nights in July — the best FREE entertainment for the whole family!

Spend your hot summer nights on the streets of Nevada City celebrating the 23rd annual Summer Nights. Wednesday evenings in July are a vacation for the entire family, with bands playing on special stages while children whoop it up on a Bounce House. With free nightly events throughout our downtown historic district, attendees are certain to find something to entertain and delight them.

Summer Nights visitors can enjoy a meal at one of our many and varied restaurants, unwind with some live music or just relax with a leisurely stroll around our stores and the top class craftsmen selling their wares on the street. “Summer Nights is a Nevada City tradition – the whole town comes alive,” says Cathy Whittlesey, Director of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce which sponsors and produces the events. “It’s the must-attend event of the summer season — a real community party, showing off the best of Nevada City.” Here are our recommendations for the best ways to make the most of Nevada City’s Summer Nights:

Fabulous Music!  Put on your dancing shoes and come on out to hear West Coast Juice and Sergeant Funky; listen to favorite oldies with Then Again; and tango the night away to Ivan Najera’s exhilarating Latin American infused music. There’s a full nightly program (see below). Don’t miss these great free concerts!

Kid Friendly Fun! Summer Nights is for everyone. There are bounce houses, face-painting and more to make sure that kids will have a great time at this family affair.

Eat and Drink with Friends and Family! Enjoy a meal at one of Nevada City’s fine restaurants, ice cream from our local stores, delicious treats from our Food Court or just hang out at our beer and wine garden listening to great live bands. There’s food for all tastes and pocketbooks at Summer Nights.

Crafts and Art! Town will be filled with arts and crafts booths featuring cool, one-of-a-kind gifts designed and produced by local artists and crafters as well as hand-picked out-of-town vendors. If you’re looking for summer gifts, Summer Nights is the perfect place to come.

Special Additions! Broad Street will host a Farmer’s Market with fresh, local produce and a different Classic Car Show every week. And don’t miss the exotic music and dance of Troupe Al Ama Belly dancers!

Calolea Olive Oil will be open on this Farm Tour July 7th 11-4PM

HIT — Normally we have to wait for the fall to get local ag tours, but this area’s growers are realizing the value of year-round tours, and are opening up for the first Sunday of the month.

So the Sierra Oro Farm Trail is providing an opportunity for the public to meet growers in July.

Van tours or private vehicles will be able to track around the county, visiting wineries and olive oil makers on July 7.

The farm trail is a great event that provides lunch, a tour and extraordinary insight into the area’s ag sector.

Thanks also go to the growers, some of whom are interrupting a work day to say welcome.
